Making Money Like Mayweather

[socialBuzz] Making Money Like Mayweather

Most people hate on Floyd Mayweather because of his bravado, arrogance, and down right disrespect towards anyone who doesn’t like him. That’s fine and all, but understand that is what made him into one of the richest athletes of all time. Like it or not, Floyd Mayweather is one of the greatest entrepreneurs that the urban community has seen in the last 50 years. Lets check out how he pulled this off.

Having faith in one’s self

Floyd believed in his talent and vision when Bob Arum didn’t. Floyd knew he could appeal to the urban community with a certain persona. However, no one else believed this. Floyd then became independent of Bob Arum and his boxing company to form his own: Mayweather Promotions. Taking this leap of faith in himself is what changed his entire life. When everyone thought he was crazy, he believed in himself and his vision.

Owning his own business

Funny how it all works out in the end, right? After years of branding his image, one night against Oscar De La Hoya changed it all. This was suppose to be the fight that Floyd loses.

Instead, he dominates Oscar and becomes the hottest ticket in boxing for the next 7 years. The boxing purses he fought for became enormous and because he owns his own promotion company, he isn’t splitting the money. Now the endorsements roll in. He even creates TMT (TheMoneyTeam) and started his own line of apparel. Everyone wants to be around him or be him. Funny how an idea turned into a vision, how a vision turned into a reality, and now he is living his life exactly the way he saw it years ago.

Understanding your value

Some perceive Floyd as an a**hole because of the way he handles business. He makes fighters take 60/40 or 70/30 splits on the purse. But Floyd understands his value. People are coming to see him potentially “lose”. He plays on that with every fight as if it was possible. He is a master marketer. With every single fight, he acknowledges that his fighter is an excellent boxer, has great skill set, and blah blah blah. Floyd knows that his opponent can’t beat him. But he sales the fight masterfully. The lesson here is to not undersell your worth. Understand what it is and don’t budge on your price.

Conclusion

You can say what you want about him, but he is an awesome entrepreneur to follow as he teaches many lessons that can help all of us be successful. Get pass his alter ego and etc and study him as an entrepreneur. Now for the question that we all want to know the answer to…….
